WE’VE DONE OUR JOB WELL
A message From Ron Whitney
As we enter BNI’s 10th year of business, it causes me to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, what we’ve learned and what we need to improve going forward. I
remember a good member telling me in 1996 that he “gave us a 1 in 10 chance of
ever succeeding” back when BNI, (Delaware Barter) was formed in January of ’93.
His odds were actually about right by industry standards, although you never could have convinced me back in ’93 that my chances were that slim – I was a driven entrepreneur determined to make it work. In addition, I was convinced back then, as I am now, of the validity of barter and the important role it plays in improving small businesses.
Over the years BNI has done amazing things for our members. Though any
barter exchanges’ offerings are obviously limited to the size and scope of its membership base, we’ve done a heck of a job providing quality merchandise and
services ON A CONSISTENT BASIS for all these years. Our focus on customer
service has never wavered, and in the end, you always know that we are there for you – your phone calls get returned and there are dedicated brokers in the office everyday ready to help you. We’ve never let up on the sales front either. Last year we brought in the best new crop of members in the history of the company. We
again, are CONSISTENT with the sales – we never stop going after the new members we need.
Despite the successes, we can always do better. We continue to improve and enhance our website, we continue to look for new business alliances that will
strengthen the exchange by bringing in more merchandise, and we continue to
build our reciprocal relationships with other barter exchanges across the country.
Barter is a business that requires persistence, patience and diplomacy. No barter exchange gets it perfect, but we try our damnedest to do it right. There is another 1 in 10 statistic that I’m fond of mentioning, that is that only
1 in 10 barter exchanges out there are worth a hoot – you’re lucky, you belong to one of them.
